Here we have a particularly well made 3 1/2" gauge BR 9F. Made to the LBSC/Martin Evans design, (this was LBSC's last design, that he left unfinished after he passed away, the design being finished off by Martin Evans). Finished off very nicely in BR green, and of course as 92220 'Evening Star'.
This is a nicely detailed and well made 3 1/2" 9F that doesn't appear to have done a great deal of running. The motion and bottom end is still very nicely tight and well machined, with lots of lovely fluting and finesse. The tender is one of the best 3 1/2" BR tender that we've seen come through so far, even down to having the scale filter boxes under the tank, which is a rare thing in 3 1/2. It's a nice job that really lifts the model. Paintwork is also very tidy with a nice job made of the lining.
She is fitted with slide valves rather than piston valves, so we expect her to make a really good 'chuff'! There is an injector fitted, an axle pump with footplate mounted bypass valve as well as the ubiquitous emergency hand pump in the tender. Don't worry about the old and cracked rubber water hoses, we will replace them when we steam test her for the certificates, as we tend to do with most of the models that come through. Lubrication is mechanical, and mounted under the front running board in the usual manor, and there is also a steam brake footplate mounted operating the brakes on the loco.
The nicely made copper boiler is of course, as with the vast majority of our models, fully ticketed and ready to play.
